At least 220,000 people were killed and 5 million were displaced during Colombia’s war, and after 52 years, it’s finally ending. In August, the country’s main rebel group — the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or the FARC — announced that they made a deal with the government. FARC signed the peace agreement in late September, and now, the ball is in the court of the Colombian people. Tomorrow, the country will hold a referendum to ratify the agreement. Polls show the referendum passing by a wide margin. If that happens, Colombians will enter an era that many have wanted. And for the first time in decades, the Americas will be free of war. @historiassencillas took this photo of a fighter on a motorcycle at the conference where FARC ratified the peace agreement.
