The physical changes wrought by artificial (domestic) selection in the pigeons Charles Darwin included feathers that grew up not down (as in the Jacobin on the left) and overlarge crops (in the Pouter on the right). "I don't hesitate to affirm that some domestic races of rock-pigeon differ as much from each other in external characters as do the most distinct natural genera", Darwin wrote in his 1868 book, The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication. #EvolutionaVisualRecord
