"My sweet friends filled me up with soup and sandwiches, layered me up with their dry clothes and mine, and pushed me out of the warming tent into the pouring rain with lots of love and encouragement. It was mile 68, maybe 1am and it was cold. I knew the next 3 or 4 hours would be a lonely cold trek, hiking as fast as I could up a freezing mud river with a climb around 2.5k. My body felt strong and I really wanted to run, however the terrain made that almost impossible to crank out more than a steady glide, for me.
