FT: Barnsley 1-1 Villa - More late heartbreak for Villa as Sam Winnall’s 89th minute leveller denies Roberto Di Matteo’s men all three points at Oakwell. The goal cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s opener just after the hour. The opening 45 minutes were even – Villa edging ahead on chances. Jonathan Kodjia and Ayew both stung the gloves of Mark Davies while Mile Jedinak went close from a set piece. With plenty of pace in their ranks, Barnsley broke well and could have taken the lead when Conor Hourihane’s low free-kick forced Pierluigi Gollini into a fine save. Di Matteo’s men were quick out of the traps as the second period got underway and carved a succession of chances. Kodjia went close twice while Aaron Tshibola saw an effort edge over the crossbar. They took a deserved lead on 61 minutes – the lively Ayew firing into the bottom corner. Roared on by their vocal away following, the visitors continued to attack – Kodjia with a header which was straight into the arms of Davies.
