We’re going dotty for Yayoi Kusama’s Pumpkin #painting from 1991. Widely viewed as Japan’s greatest living artist, Kusama’s signature surreal gourds have been incorporated so frequently into her work that they are often interpreted as self-portraits. In her own words: “I make them and make them and keep on making them, until I bury myself in the process. I call this "obliteration"'.
