Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPstyle The goal this weekend is to celebrate personal style. Our project takes inspiration from photographer Anka Itskovich (@the_line_up), who makes portraits of New York City pedestrians that catch her eye. “I focus on street style — I celebrate self-expression, self-confidence and diversity,” says Anka. Anka’s instructions: Cast a wide net: “Be all-inclusive, be nonjudgmental, be unbiased, cover everyone. There is not one trend. There is not one sort of orientation.” Get your subjects’ stories: “It’s really about cultural storytelling: that it’s raw, candid and in the moment. And that I, personally, have a high degree of empathy toward the subjects.” Anka adds, “Have no fear of approaching someone. If they are wearing something that wants to be seen, they love to be acknowledged about it.” Don’t forget about the backdrop — a key part of the portrait template according to Anka. Whether you’re capturing a candid moment on the street or a more posed portrait, chose a setting with colors, patterns and lighting that interact with your subject’s look. Project RULES: Please add the #WHPstyle hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.
