When Eli started surfing, he wanted to stop. He liked skateboarding, and riding waves was just a distraction. But his parents asked him to paddle out for an hour each day, and before long he couldn't stop.

Eventually, an hour every day turned into three hours. And the young kid who couldn’t wait to get out of the water now can't stay away from it.
