Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) - Professor Christoph Spötl from the University of Innsbruck drills out a core sample of flowstone from deep inside Conturines cave in the Italian Dolomites. I joined this team of geologists as part of a field campaign collecting very old flowstone samples for past climate research from this site of interest. This cave is famous for the collection of bones and skulls that are found inside from cave bears, which are now an extinct species. Busy planning a return trip to this mountain for more work later in the year.
