-Frank Sinatra was the first to call me “Q” in 1962
-Oprah calls me “Anotha motherless mofo from Mississippi.”
-My brother Lloyd called me “Dewey”
-Phil Woods called me “Dark Gable”
-I called Ray Charles “69” and he called me “70.” He told me to stop calling his name out in public, so I picked 69...because he sure was one with the ladies...
-Count Basie called me “young blood”
-Hampton called me “Gates”...I have no idea why...but be boppers came up with slang that didn’t make sense but it always sounded cool, so you just went with it!!
-Steve Ross called me “8s” I called him “Aces” because he had that card splitting thing DOWN.
-Clark Terry called me “Sackadoodoo”
