#Amorphophallustitanum, also known as #TitanArum or the #CorpseFlower, first bloomed in captivity in North America at The New York Botanical Garden nearly 80 years ago. Carol H. Woodward wrote in 1937 about the final decline of the historic NYBG bloom: "For many days after the plant had drooped and finally been removed, people continued to come to the Garden to see the ‘world's largest flower.’ But the best of the show was over the morning of Saturday, June 12, when the spadix toppled forward and the end came increasingly near." The image on the right shows this great inflorescence—the largest inflorescence in the plant kingdom—in decline. #nybglibrary #tbt
