Back home from #ASEM!
Took a drive out of Ulaanbaatar to the Chinggis Khan Statue Complex before heading home. The gleaming 40m-tall stainless steel statue is an imposing and striking sight against the windswept, bare landscape.

Chinggis Khan (or Genghis Khan) was the founder of the Mongol empire, which at its peak stretched from the Mediterranean Sea all the way across Asia to China. In this brief period of peace, trade flowed along the Silk Road between Europe and China. Marco Polo famously travelled along the route to the court of Kublai Khan. Fitting that leaders from Asia and Europe should gather in Mongolia for ASEM11.
