At least 77 people were killed after a large truck plowed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice France. The grim death toll jolted the entire country, which has been tenterhooks for months, wondering if and when another deadly assault might occur. “It felt like a war scene,” says French photographer Antoine Chauvel. “It was horrible.” Chauvel, who was on the scene in the minutes following the attacks, witnessed the gruesome aftermath as dead bodies lay on the road and injured people fled for their lives.
