Locals in the Ilashe coastal community in Lagos, Nigeria, danced to sounds of @djobiajent coming from a beach house party. The photographer @andrewesiebo grew up #Lagos. On the hottest days of his childhood, young people packed the street corners in his neighborhood as #Afrobeat and #dancehall music blasted from small radios entranced the crowds. Years later, the 37-year-old photographer is documenting the dynamic party scene in this hectic megacity. @andrewesiebo has photographed more than 30 parties, ranging from 6-figure weddings to late-night street gatherings. “Nigerians are drawing inspiration from what they see through the media about parties in the other parts of the world,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #lensblog. “Then they match it up with the spirit of Lagos.” What exactly is that spirit? “It’s a spirit of never giving up,” he said. “You keep fighting until you get what you want.”
