“Up north, hockey is more than just a game. It’s your community. Your team is more than just a group of athletes. They’re your family. Coming out as trans was a vulnerable process. I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to play in the women’s league anymore. I was terrified of losing my team. But as I transitioned, my teammates not only supported me, they embraced me. They changed the rules so I would be included. So that I would always have a place on the team that I loved so much. When I think of what it means to belong, it's this. It’s about being a part of something that is bigger than yourself. Regardless of age, background, or in my case, gender identity. I find myself wanting to share that same feeling with others. I'm a host because I want to share my beautiful world with others. But also because I want to let them know that they too are always welcome... no matter what.” — Chase Blodgett, transgender activist, public speaker, Airbnb host, and team captain on the Whitehorse Women’s Hockey League.
