Paul is well known for his love of rabbits. A chance remark, while gazing out of a window during a train journey with a friend in the 1980s “If I see a rabbit, it will be good luck for me”, led to Paul’s friend later sending a large toy rabbit to his office. Today Paul receives between six and twenty rabbits a week and there are currently over eighty boxes full of rabbits stored in the warehouse in Nottingham. Rabbits can be found everywhere in the office as toys, sculptures and books. There are rabbits made from ceramic, cloth, paper and carved wood. On one occasion, a woman even turned up at a Paul Smith fashion show in Paris carrying a live rabbit!
