Today's #PhotoOfTheDay is a detail from an image of American band leader and trombone player Sunny Brooks on the deck of the SS 'Mariposa' in Sydney, New South Wales. The photograph was published on the front cover of "The Australian Music Maker and Dance Band News", 1 May 1935, vol. 3 no. 12. Brooks had been brought to Australia by the Australian Cabaret and Amusement Corporation to play at the New Palais Royal, Moore Park, Sydney. His band was advertised as 'Sunny Brooks and his Hollywood Orchestra' which included local musicians. The 'Grand Opening Ball' was held on Friday, 17 May 1935. The photograph was taken at the same time as 94/63/1-44/6:10, 12. In the foreground is a lifebuoy with the lettering 'SS MARIPOSA / LOS ANGELES'. In the background is the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
