MOLLY UPDATE 3: OK so as it turns out, Molly did NOT have a room to herself as I was led to believe over the phone. She got a 2'x2' cage surrounded by the other dogs and cats and Molly was - pardon my language - scared shitless. At my house, she was afraid, yes... but she would hiss for like five seconds and then let me scratch her neck and start to love up on me. At the shelter, however, she was just crouched low with her ears back and wouldn't move AT ALL. When I stood outside the shelter, waiting for a cab, I was crying already and when I got home, it was such a bittersweet realization just how blessed the rest of my cats are. ? You know, to be very honest, when I got to the shelter, I didn't have a good feeling in my gut. And when I entered, it just got worse and worse. It didn't help that the staff (not mentioning any names) didn't know the difference between FIV and FeLV, let alone heard of vaccinations against FeLV, and I noticed some of the cats looked sick or had bald patches in their fur from what looked like stress grooming. ??? So guys, this is what I am going to do. As $60 was not collected (and I wasn't gonna just hand over so much money for Molly to live in a tiny ass cage), I am going to DIY a cage or get the biggest one I can find on Amazon so I can segregate half the playroom into a space for her (which is WAY better than a 2'x2'cage surrounded by so much noise and way too many other animals) and then I'm gonna go GET HER BACK from the shelter. Since FeLV is transmitted through mutual grooming, sharing litter boxes and water bowls and toys, keeping Molly segregated like that will reduce the transmission to the rest AND I will also get the rest tested and vaccinated. In the meantime, I will keep looking for a furever home for Molly. I am so sorry for the change of plans but I cannot in good conscience leave Molly in a CAGE at that place when I have a ROOM. I really hope you understand, and if you would like to contribute to this undertaking which is going to be costly, PLEASE consider making a donation and I will send you some postcards/stickers/magnets in return. If I tagged you, you can still have a refund if you want since (cont below)
