The most sumptuous moment in America’s Gilded Age is revealed through the work of some of its most noted design firms in “Artistic Furniture of the Gilded Age,” closing Sunday. The exhibition introduces the work of George A. Schastey (American, 1839–1894), who operated a large and successful decorating firm in the late nineteenth century, catering to some of the nation's wealthiest individuals. Replicating the patterns and palette of Isnik tiles from the seventeenth century, Schastey selected these French-made tiles to line the walls of art collector and philanthropist Arabella Worsham’s bathroom.
