"...Ever since I found IDEAS, the AB540 support group at Mt.SAC, I have become active throughout my community. I’ve worked with organizations helping fill out Dream Act, Deferred Action applications, phone banking, voter registration, and lobbying. It’s been a wonderful experience and has helped me grow as a person, leader, and activist. The community’s energy empowers me; I love giving back without expecting anything in return. I’ve had strangers knocking on my door asking for help on immigration related applications and a simple “Thank you, God bless you” makes me happy. Because of my hard work, I’ve been IDEAS president, and now, Vice President for the Mt. SAC Student Government. I didn’t have anyone in my family who could guide me in the process of pursuing higher education. In that way, I made the decision to find answers to the many questions I had, which resulted in my involvement on campus.
My brother has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia, causing an unstable household as he’s tried to commit suicide and is hospitalized frequently. Since he too is undocumented..."
