Happy Birthday, #Morrissey. Or should we rather, like #TheSmiths tune, wish you an “Unhappy Birthday”? On this day in 1959 Stephen Patrick Morrissey was born. The singer, songwriter (and author) became famous as the lead vocalist of the Smiths. In 1988, Moz launched his solo career and several great albums, including ‘Viva Hate,’ ‘Bona Drag,’ ‘Kill Uncle,’ ‘Your Arsenal’ and ‘Vauxhall and I.’ In 2013, he released his autobiography, which revealed a lot about the quirky rock legend’s background, and he continues to make music that is staunchly his own. As he sings on “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get”: "I am now a central part of your mind's landscape/whether you care or do not/I've made up your mind." Photograph by Clare Muller
