From @music, Mike Winkelmann (aka @beeple_crap) talks about his colorful concert visuals. In 2011, Mike attended Lollapalooza and was stunned to find his work plastered behind most of the performers. When he got home, he checked the stats of his Creative Commons uploads; his clips were being downloaded roughly 1,000 times a day. Since then, Mike has officially produced live visuals for Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and more. In those cases, he is one person in a team of about 10. It’s fun, but stressful — and not nearly as freeform as what he does with Zedd, having become the producer’s sole visual designer three years ago. “That was cool for me,” Mike says, about their ongoing collaboration and the work they did on Zedd’s recent “True Colors” tour. “When I got to see it live, it was like anybody else seeing it live. I didn’t know what was coming next.”
