Yellowstone // Range rider Bree Morrison watches as a female grizzly with three second year cubs moves out of a hay field in SW Montana. This is exactly what Bree's job is about - early mornings and late nights in the saddle to keep a constant human presence on the landscape that will deter would be predators from attacking livestock.
This method is similar to a shepherd that watches a flock of sheep, a method that has worked since man domesticated animals - keep your livestock assets safe by being with them. Always.
In the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, some livestock owners are adjusting to the rebounding large carnivores (wolves, grizzly, and cougars) by incorporating these age-old practices of keeping livestock safe into their ranching practices. The results are reduced numbers of livestock losses on these ranches.
