Vivian Qiang from Marlboro, New Jersey is a finalist of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge, which Dolby co-sponsored. The finalists, all young women between the ages of 15 and 18, submitted a STEM project that has the potential to benefit the world. Vivian designed and built an efficient and cost effective hybrid solar thermal collector for residential space and water heating, which could help address the excessive use of climate impacting non-renewable resources. “I’ve always been really interested in how human’s relationship with energy impacts global warming. In order to further investigate that, I studied solar energy and, in particular, solar thermal collectors. I really like drawing and building things, so this is just a natural STEM extension of my creative side.” -- Vivian Qiang
