My darling niece Vaidehi.
It was her Barha Tayegu today, a coming of age ceremony for girls from the Newar community of Nepal. It's a 12 day ritual in which the girl is married to Sun God. Legend has it that the ritual started so the girl will never be a widow even after her real husband dies, therefore she will never have to live a widow's life nor face any prejudice as a widow.
A beautiful ceremony that actually empowers women.
