To celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Department of Drawings and Prints, gallery 690 will feature one masterpiece per week starting today through April 30, 2017. Reflecting the remarkable breadth of the holdings, the rotating selection includes drawings and prints as well as woodblocks, books, cut paper, and ephemera, ranging from the early fifteenth to the twenty-first century.
This week’s @metdrawingsandprints “Work of the Week” is Seurat's study of his friend the artist Aman-Jean. The work ranks as one of the great portrait drawings of the nineteenth century.
