Oka is 6 months old. She lives at a makeshift rehabilitation center in #Borneo, where she and one other baby #orangutan are bottle-fed human infant formula and put to bed in a bamboo crib. Last year, a handful of #orangutans — endangered apes native to rain forests in the Indonesian regions of #Borneo and Sumatra — lost family members in huge fires that destroyed more than 10,000 square miles of forests in Indonesia. The suffering of creatures like Oka is part of a larger story of corporate expansion in a developing economy crashing into environmental issues in an era of climate change. @kemaljufri took this photo while on #nytassignment.
