Hi! I’m Kristen, the gal behind the outdoor travel blog @bearfoottheory, and I’m so stoked to be closing out International Women’s Month with GoPro! In 2014, I quit my policy job in Washington DC, moved to the mountains, and poured my energy into building my blog - named after the Grateful Dead dancing bear tattoo on my right foot.
Now nearly 2 years later, I’m blogging and traveling full time. I just returned from a three month solo camper van road trip around #GoPro where I was determined to try things that were out of my comfort zone. This photo was taken just below Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand, where I spent 4 days taking an Intro to Mountaineering Course with Alpine Recreation. We learned the basics of glacier travel and mountaineering equipment before crossing the Ball Glacier and climbing to the summit of nearby Kaitiaki Peak.
Taking this course helped me build up my confidence, and taught me that if you have any interest in trying something new, you should go for it...because you might just discover a whole new passion, which is what happened to me as I stood on that summit. Now I just have to decide what peak to tackle next. #GoPro
