Our Stanley crane Alice can’t talk, but her ? helped our scientists get in her head. Alice was hand-raised by keepers after her parents abandoned her egg. Since Alice is socially bonded with humans, she participates in an educational demonstration every week. She seems to enjoy participating in the demonstration. But keepers and scientists at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute teamed up to find out for sure. So, they measured cortisol levels in her poop. It turned out that she is not stressed by participating in the demonstration, nor is she stressed on days when she does not have a demonstration. #WeSaveSpecies
