Iranian volunteer, Mahtab plays with a dog at Vafa animal shelter in Hashtgerd. Vafa shelter is a non-government charity providing shelter to more than 700 stray dogs and they have sent over 400 dogs to US and Canada for adoption since the shelter was founded in 2003. In recent years many Iranians are keen to have pet dogs in their homes even if the authorities conducted crackdowns on dogs in the streets as they are considered "Najis" or unclean due to the Islamic beliefs.
Hi @AFP通信 followers, I’m @straydreams, photographer for AFP since 1998 based in Tehran / Nicosia and currently as acting photo deputy for Middle East & North Africa region and have covered Middle East and South Asia since 2001.
I will #takeover the #AFPphoto account until Feb 27 while on assignment for AFP in Iran to cover the parliamentary elections, but I will mainly post daily life pictures plus the election coverage, taken only with mobile phone.
