@melissafarlow | will never forget how shocked I was when foul-smelling tomato juice laden with toxic metals flowed out of the faucet instead of clear water. Mine employees admitted in court that for 8 years they injected poisonous mine slurry into the ground nearby that ran into wells. This photo immediately came to mind when I was asked to write about a photograph that inspired change. Mountains are flattened and streams filled in but the human toll is often overlooked from poorly regulated mining practices.
