A lone visitor walks up to the Brocken, the highest peak of the Harz Mountain range in Northern Germany. For centuries the Brocken has played a role in German legends where it was believed to be a gathering place for witches and devils. The Brocken spectre is a common phenomenon where a climber's shadow cast upon fog creates eerie optical effects.

In recent history the Brocken was extensively used for espionage purposes.
