Photo by @michaelchristopherbrown. An Mbuti Pygmy Chief carries two Galagos, caught while net hunting in the Ituri Rainforest, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Galagos often sound like crying human infants, earning them another name: bushbabies. According to the African Wildlife Foundation, bushbabies are the most successful primitive primates in Africa in both variety and abundance. They have large eyes that give them good night vision, strong hind limbs, acute hearing, and long tails that help them balance. Their ears are bat-like and allow them to track insects in the dark. They are fast, agile creatures, catching insects on the ground or out of the air while also preying on small animals, fruit, and tree gums. Galagos also have remarkable jumping abilities. The highest reliably reported jump for a galago is 2.25 m, which given their body mass enables their jumping muscles to perform six to nine times better than those of a frog. @michaelchristopherbrown
