I'm entering @pawproject's big 100K giveaway because we need to spread the word and educate people about declawning.
Please take a minute to imagine that someone surgically removed all your fingers from the top joint.
It would be painful for U, and it would take U a long time to recover. And even after U healed, U would still be disfigured for the rest of your life. This is what U are effectively doing to your cat when U choose to declaw.
Now put yourself in your cat's place: Your toes are perfectly designed to balance your weight; they are perfectly designed to keep your bones and your muscles in perfect alignment. U need your claws to help you stretch, to balance, to exercise, to walk, stalk, run, and climb.
Now imagine you've had the first bone and claw, along with tendons and ligaments, cut away. And you STILL have to walk on those toes. Imagine U were still expected to be a good cat while U were suffering, and still stand in the litter box, still be loving and affectionate, and not complain.
