Photograph by @Thomas Peschak Curved in like this, the cephalic lobes usher and almost force the plankton into the mouth. This is the classic feeding posture of the reef manta ray. One can clearly see the gill rakers inside the mouth which act as a sieve, scooping up masses of plankton and expelling the water through the gill slits as the manta swims along in the #Hanifaru Marine Reserve, Maldives.
