We were honored to host longtime SRAM pro athlete @rebeccarusch at the Zipp factory in Indianapolis today. She toured the production facility, met with employees throughout the building, and sat down and talked cycling. One hot topic was gravel — a growing and incredibly cool cycling segment she — and we — love. In gravel races such as the #DirtyKanza in Kansas she rides the Zipp 303 Firecrest Disc-brake in addition to her SRAM Force 1 drivetrain. We’re crafting a full interview with Rebecca to post on Zipp.com next week, but here’s what she had to say about riding and racing on gravel: "What’s so cool about gravel is the surface is so changing… there might be a good line for a little while, but then there’s a pile of gravel. It’s really smooth, and then it’s washboards. Then there’s wind this way or that way. It’s actually really exciting because you have to stay focused on where your tires are, where you line is going. Things like tire pressure are more important. The bike handling is very much like mountain biking. I felt like it’s this very beautiful way of taking the best of both sports – mountain biking and road – and bringing them together on one playing field. And it didn’t really favor necessarily the roadie or the mountain biker.” Well stated, Rebecca. #ZippSpeed
