Photograph by @Thomas Peschak The sardine run off the coast of South Africa is a prime feeding period for Cape Gannets. Gannets dive for their prey, but they do not spear it. Gannets have a curved beak, useful only for snatching. They dive into the water at great speed, locate the fish and then grab at them with an open beak.
