Salamanders are amphibians. Though, in evolutionary terms, the animals we know as salamanders today, became distinct from other species of amphibians (like frogs) about 200 million years ago. All amphibians breathe through their skin, and most species of salamanders need to live in moist environments. We’re opening a new exhibit all about the incredible salamanders that live in the Appalachian region. Visit Jewels of Appalachia at the Reptile Discovery Center starting Oct. 17! #WeSaveSpecies
