“By age 13, I knew I was gay, and I made the rational-sounding decision to lead the life I was ‘supposed’ to lead, to not act on my feelings, and not tell anyone—ever. In college, it became clear I couldn’t be happy without being my true self. So I started the process of coming out. You’ll be surprised by how much love and community and joy you can find. My life now is more wonderful than anything I could have imagined back when I struggled to even say the word.” Weeks before the U.S. Supreme Court announced their decision to make same sex marriage legal, we shared our #HostWithPride film spotlighting the fears that LGBTQ couples sometimes face when traveling. The film was inspired by a personal story that Sam, one of our photo editors at Airbnb, shared while planning a honeymoon with her fiancée, Jamie (quoted above). Today--coincidentally on National #ComingOut Day--we’re happy to share that the couple made it official in Jamie’s hometown of New Orleans!
