Over the years, one chapter at a time, I've taught myself to stretch, prepare, and hang large canvases alone—all without ever letting them touch the ground. This isn't easy and it's rarely fun. But when I'm wondering what I'm good for, I remember what I've taught myself about fine things and how to make them. As for these, they're the largest paintings I've ever made, and I'm never doing it again. ;) What about you? You've grown so quiet. What have you taught yourself to do alone?
