About the Shot: Handplane Bodysurf - Though I've been a stand up #surfer most of my life, I #bodysurf quite a bit when surfing conditions are not ideal (small, but clean and hollow). Using a #handplane allows a bodysurfer to go faster and plane higher on the surface of the water, reducing the amount of drag thought the water, and subsequently the amount of spray in one's face. I've set out to capture some photos with my @Brownfish hand plane, and the moment I wanted is when lip of the wave is about to land next to me, but before I am enveloped. This way, the camera can see beyond the wave to the background and add a sense of place to the photo.

How the Shot was Captured: The rides tend to be pretty short at this surf spot, so I figure that setting my #GoPro to 30/3 #burstmode is the option for me. Usually the best frame numbers of each sequence are between #15-25 out of 30. The first second to second and a half are spent catching the wave and dropping into position, the next second to second and a half are spent riding the wave (preferably in the tube!), and the last half second to one second are spent getting tumbled. I built a custom mount to achieve this angle, because I wanted to be able to see my @Brownfish in the shot. Shot with the #HERO4Black.
