It was kind of a gift being invited to accompany Shiwaga Hagos, a Tigrayan health extension worker, as she visited patients in rural Ethiopian villages delivering babies, testing for malaria, cleaning wounds, distributing information about family planning. After I waved hello to a handful of young girls, they briefly circled around me, curious, wide-eyed, both shy and friendly. It was one of those exceptional moments when I felt less the photographer, more a person.
