Shirlene Quigley leading a class at @peridancecapeziocenter near Union Square in Manhattan. The school was founded in 1983 by Igal Perry, who was drawn to New York City in the wake of the 1970s #dance boom. He aspired to build a community hub for all varieties of the city’s performers, whether they belonged to the Broadway and ballet worlds uptown or to the experimental dance scene thriving downtown. Over the years, @peridancecapeziocenter has become one of the most respected institutions in the city, while managing to maintain a youthful enthusiasm — and a diversity of styles. Today, the school’s open class structure places amateurs side by side with experienced dancers. @deidre photographed @peridancecapeziocenter on #nytassignment.
