On August 19th, OWL (Oracle Women’s Leadership) HQ hosted a Krav Maga Self Defense workshop at the #Oracle Fitness Center. Over 60 Oracle employees actively participated in the event.
What is Krav Maga you ask? Krav Maga is a form of self-defense that was developed for the military in Israel. It focuses on real-world situations and being effective with your moves.
Danny Zelig, founder and owner of the Krav Maga Institute, was our special guest instructor. Danny is a 2nd generation Israeli Krav Maga instructor of Imi Lichtenfeld, certified directly by Imi’s most senior disciple and Head of the Rank Committee. He has been practicing and teaching Krav Maga to civilians, military, and law enforcement since 1983.
To start, Danny had the participants do some exercises to make them more aware of their surroundings, where the exits were, how many men vs women were in the room, etc. He then demonstrated some moves to escape from an aggressor’s grip to quickly get out of dangerous situations. After each demonstration, the audience split into pairs and practiced what they had just learned. This was followed by a lively and informative Q&A session.
