1 day to go to #AfroBasket2015! The most eagerly-awaited answer in Group D is to find out what Cote d'Ivoire, a traditional top-four contender, are capable of doing without some of their key players. While point guard Souleyman Diabate is the only 'survivor' from the team that finished fourth at AfroBasket 2013 on home soil, new head coach Hugues Occansey faces a tough challenge as he is taking to Tunisia a roster lacking grip in international stage. It's a new era for the "Elephants" who will begin their AfroBasket 2015 quest facing an ambitious Cape Verde team. Years ago, beating Cape Verde should have been a legitimate probability for the Ivoirians, but the reality now favours the islanders. Cape Verde new coach Luis Magalhaes has put together a solid and experienced roster with the likes of Mario Correia, Brian Rudolph, Jeff Xavier and Ivan Almeida taking a leading role. They could top Group D, but that shouldn't come without a fight from Algeria, who received a wild card invitation to take part in the tournament. The Algerians, who finished 12th in the 16-team tournament two years ago, will face tournament debutants Zimbabwe on 20 August. Zimbabwe ace Vitalis Chikoko has hinted at his team's ambitions in a recent interview with FIBA.com, but it remains to be seen whether or not, he is capable of sparking his team to new heights. A couple of years ago, the Algerians conceded their biggest defeat against hosts Cote d'Ivoire. Can they gain a measure of revenge against the short-handed Cote d'Ivoire? We'll find out on 24 August. The winner of the tournament will claim Africa's only direct qualification spot for next year's Olympics in Rio. Teams that finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th will get to take part in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs). The competition will be played in a round robin format, with every team taking on its three opponents in its respective group.
