The port at #RasLaffan, a desert headland in #Qatar about an hour from the capital, Doha. Once a poor nation whose economy depended on fishing and pearl diving, Qatar is a relatively new giant in the global energy trade. In 2014, the country produced more than a third of all liquefied natural gas. When natural gas is chilled to minus 260 degrees, it turns into a liquid with a fraction of its former volume. The process has reshaped the #naturalgas business, allowing the fuel to be pumped onto ships and dispatched around the world. Andrew Testa took this photo while on #nytassignment.
