Photo by @stephenwilkes: From 1964 to 1973 during the Vietnam War, the US dropped over 2 million tons of bombs on Laos. That is the equivalent of a planeload every 8 minutes for 9 years.
This aerial view shows a man as he rides his bike through Phonsavanh, where craters still scar the landscape from the millions of bombs dropped during the secret war.
National Geographic’s story, Life After the Bombs, for which I traveled to Laos, is online now. Find the link in my profile and learn more about this incredible country with a powerful story.
