Feeling a little wordy today... Reading philosopher A. Kojeve last night, a quote stood out as a strong reality for us at Le Labo: “The man who works recognizes his own product in the world that has actually been transformed by his work. He recognizes himself in it, he sees his own human reality in it he discovers and reveals to others the objective reality of his humanity of the originally abstract and purely subjective idea he has of himself” This might sound relevant for a cabinet maker, a car mechanic, a ceramic artist... but it is also somehow our daily reality at le labo... We see so many people around us who feel emotionally disconnected from work that it is impacting their own sense of understanding of what it is is to be human. If you add to that the omnipresence of screens in our lives ( and yeah, beloved instagram !), this has a tremendous impact in our lives. This is maybe why poetry for our nostrils have become more important than ever and that our creations are getting so much following, we don't know really - but to explain why this quote resonated so much, we have to explain that yes, our craft is in perfume creation, yes we are obsessed to bring magic to the lives of our clients through our compositions but beyond creation, beyond inspiration, beyond fine perfumery, the beauty in our lives at Le Labo comes from the actual MAKING of these perfumes, from the fact we show up every day, and we formulate, we mix, we pour, we cramp with our own hands, we put our own name on your label as a proof of pride and ownership for the quality of each perfume we prepare, we take deep satisfaction in every single little bottle that leaves our labs - we love making, we love caring, we love showing up and make your life more beautiful one by one, every single day. This brings purpose to a lot of lives ( can't speak for all of us !) in our little ecosystem- and to paraphrase Kojeve, we see our own human reality in that process... Yep, That was longer than usual, get used to it! #thepowerofmaking
