I was at the hospital today having some glass removed from my foot (long story I won't bore you with) but in the waiting room I met a woman who had fallen at home in her garden. She was 87 and she had cut her face and chin, cut all her leg and foot and had her arm in a sling. She was such a trooper telling me what had happened even making jokes about it going on you've been framed and then saying how annoyed she was at being so bruised as she now finally feels her age....Having assumed a fall for someone of that age would have been upsetting I obviously asked how she was feeling and she told me the only thing that has upset her is having to take off her wedding ring as her hand had swelled up. She said it hadn't been off once in 66 years and out of everything, that's the only thing which had upset her. She actually got emotional telling me about them wanting to cut it off but she refused and pulled it off herself which she said was painful but there was no way it was being cut! She then told me her husband had passed away 17 years ago... Speaking to her and seeing her face light up at the mention of her husband and her being so passionate and loyal to him all these years later really made me smile. She fell in love with a man 66 years ago and he still makes her happy even though she hasn't seen him for 17 years. The sad thing is that I didn't even get her name... But she made my visit to A&E a much more pleasant experience... ?
