After the death of lead guitarist Jerry Garcia in 1995, the surviving four members of The Grateful Dead say they will end the band’s 50-year run this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Chicago, the city where Garcia played his last show as frontman 20 years ago.
Mickey Hart said it best in this vintage NBC News interview, “There’s no reason why you can’t play until you drop.” Hart will join other original members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzman in the band’s "Fare Thee Well" shows. Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio (@treyanastasio) will fill in for Garcia.
