“The major attraction of working in the #mining industry was the job security; you knew that if you started work at a colliery you would be employed for life, and earning decent money, too. That’s all gone now.” Andrew McKenzie is a foreman mechanic at the Thoresby Colliery in #Nottinghamshire, where the photographer @davidsevern’s father once worked. In the British Midlands, the heart of England’s coal country, @davidsevern documented reminders of a thriving industrial past. “I began photographing the people and places of these once thriving coalfields to capture the cultural and social life,” he wrote, “and to mark the final chapter in the decline of coal mining in #Britain.”
